Campaign strategy

A campaign strategy is a short set of decisions that stops a budget being spread thinly across everything. It says what this campaign is for, who it must reach, and what it must be impossible to misunderstand.

Businesses and organisations about to spend on a launch, a season, a recruitment drive or an awareness push and want the money to work as one effort.

How we work through campaign strategy

One objective, agreed in writing

A campaign asked to raise awareness, launch a product, recruit staff and sell tickets at the same time will do none of them well. We agree a primary objective and treat the rest as secondary, which also makes it possible to judge the result honestly.

  • The single primary objective and the audience it concerns
  • Secondary goals, explicitly ranked below the first
  • What would count as success before any money is spent

One message the audience can repeat

The test of a campaign message is whether a customer can repeat it to someone else. We write the main message and the supporting proof points, then check that every channel can carry the same claim in its own way.

Channels chosen for the audience, not the habit

Radio, outdoor, social, print, an event or a distributor's shopfront all reach different people in different frames of mind. We choose a small number of channels where the audience genuinely is, and give them enough weight to be noticed.

  • Channel mix with a reason for each one included
  • Budget split between channels and production
  • What each channel is responsible for delivering

What you receive

  • Campaign objective and audience definition
  • A single main message with supporting proof points
  • Channel plan with the role of each channel
  • Budget split between media and production
  • A dated timeline including production lead times
  • A one-page brief any supplier or partner can work from

Questions we are often asked

  • Can you plan a campaign for a small budget?

Yes, and a smaller budget usually benefits most from planning. One channel done properly with good production generally beats five channels done thinly, and strategy is what makes that trade-off visible before you commit.

  • Who decides the budget?

You do. We set out what different levels of spend would realistically buy and what each would leave out, so the decision is made with the trade-offs in front of you rather than after the fact.

  • Do you handle media buying?

We plan the channel mix and can coordinate placement and publishing with the platforms, stations and suppliers involved, including briefing them and checking what actually went out. Where a client already has a buyer or agency, we work with them.
